Around half a lifetime ago, I had such a memorable pint of "Heavy" that I forget (chuckle) for certain, the brewery. I've a hunch it was John Courage but definitely it was at Plymouth's Minerva ale house.
I've not seen it since and would welcome a recipe that approximates to this.

I'll gladly provide you some recipes. But to clarify, are you thinking it was like a Scotch Ale, "Wee Heavy" kinda thing, or possibly the revered Courage Imperial Russian Stout, which could definitely be described as "heavy"?
