hi All,
Well its September and time for the yearly juløl bres to start.
here is tomorrows plan:-
27 litre brewlength:-
Fermentables
6360 Pale malt
480 wheat malt
320 extra dark crystal malt
320 carapils
Hops/Misc
33 g ( 24 IBU) Northdown @60
29 g ( 9-10 IBU) challenger @ 15
5 whole crushed cinnamon sticks at 15 min
5 whole crushed cinnamon sticks at 5
Nottingham tyeast. Fermented at 20 degrees.
Post fermentation I may need to add a spiced tea of diverse spices in order to replace any mild spiced taste removed by the fermentation.
hope to get pics up tomorrow.
based on an 80% efficiency I should end up with something along the lines of:-
OG 1.066
FG 1.014 ( notty might go lower though)
giving me an abv of around 6.8%
Just right for what could be a cold and long Winter.

Did this end up happening? Reminds me a little of my brother-in-law's Danish Paske øl, one of the best beers ever.

Yes it happened.
I suffered with an efficiency that was pnce again too high and it has turned out at 7.4 as opposed a planned 6.8.
I oitched a glass of nottingham slurry and although it was a little slower than normal starting it really took off.
The 3/8 blow off tube could not cope and partly filled with yeast and the pressure inside the fv was so high the lid creased. It survives this brew but will need changing before the next.
I made a tea with 30g mulled wine spices in 500ml of water. Boiled then let it all steep til cold. This was added to the fv and the bag was added tol as a dry hop.
Tasted after a couple of days and it is just how i wanted it. The spices are there but not in your face and clme through in the aftertaste.
I cot a few pictures but good company ,Ragnarok porter and Ipa sort of made me forget to take them.

It may need to follow the stout across the way...seymour wrote:Sounds great, mate. You're on a real roll up there!
