Black Pepper in an IPA

Post by DeadFall » Wed Oct 01, 2014 5:38 pm

I was munching some leek and tatty soup at lunch time. I love to add a good hit of freshly crushed black pepper to mine and the thought process went

black pepper goes with lemon
lemon is citrus
hops can have citrus flavours
IPA uses lots of hops
Black Pepper in an IPA!

Any thoughts, suggestions on hops? Anyone tried?

Try brewing an IPA with a saison yeast, they can be quite peppery.
I'm just here for the beer.

Give this small thread a read, not tried it myself but sounds intriguing.

For hops? Sorachi Ace, Cascade?

Pacific jade is citrus with peppery notes.
Citra may work with the pepper, having lime, tropical fruits. A bit south Asian sweet, sour and spice, food influence.
