Small Batch IPA

Post by snowbeast » Sat Oct 12, 2013 6:15 am

Last night had to be my best brew night ever. SWMBO had two mates around to plan the wedding so I lit a fire and dragged my equipment to near the pool.

IPA was on the cards

250g CaraBohemian
1.6kg LDME
20g Centinnial (60mins)
20g East Kent Goldings (15mins)
15g East Kent Goldings (5mins)

Boil was 10l I estimate I lost a litre but added 250ml back with my yeast starter.

Hoping to dry hop but with what I'm not sure.

Small batches are a great way to try out different recipes. I am not sure what hops you have access to but a couple that I really like to dry hop with in an IPA are Summit and Columbus. what yeast are you using? Let us know how it goes for you

I'd go with more goldings.
I'm just here for the beer.

I used safbrew t05 I think. Blu packed. Used a remainder of a packet, its fermenting violently.

Glad you said Goldings as I have a lot of it.
I also have perle, cascade, centennial, northern brewer,us05 (10%) and one or two small amounts.

If that's the original Fermentis packaging then you used S-04; S-05 comes in a red foil. Even so, I think you chose the better of the yeasts :) hope it turns out well

I've done a couple of IPA's dry hopped with 100g Cascade - bloody lovely!
Best wishes

Was the blue package. Pulled it out the dogs mouth the next morning :)

Mmmmmm, I'm really hoping for a hoppy beer.

Best recipe I've done so far. Produces a very bitter ipa. On the lines of brew dog in bitterness. Its hoppy, the next batch will be experimental and lots more will bare added

I've tweaked the above recipe for tonight.
250g cara bohemian
50g Crystal 40
10g Centennial (60mins)
15g East Kent Goldings (15mins)
10g East Kent Goldings (5mins)
10g Cascade (5mins)

I wanted to lower the bitterness a touch and add a bit more maltiness to the beer. I will dry hop with anything I have that is fresh.
