Amarillo IPA bitterness question

Post by mattp94 » Fri Nov 07, 2014 3:33 pm

I made up a recipe using beer engine and brewed this back on 30/10/14. The recipe is below. I have just taken a gravity sample which was 1.010 so all seems to be going well and have dry hopped with 100g of Amarillo pellets. The gravity sample tasted pretty good but when I plug the same ingredients and boil times into Beersmith it gives me an IBU of 99.2
That came as quite a surprise as the beer engine software only showed 60EBU.
From the taste of it I would say it is much closer to the 60 mark than 99 but where could I be going wrong with Beersmith.

Anyone have any ideas please?

Different programs may use different formulas to calculate bitterness. In my Promash program I can select which formula to calculate bitterness, IMO you should simply stick with one program and one formula to calculate the bitterness that will be the only way to be consistent batch to batch.
