Help with Rye recipe

Post by DeadFall » Mon Dec 08, 2014 12:57 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to put together a recipe for a rye ale. Looking for a red colour and quite hoppy. I have this so far, but I want to swap the galaxy out for something else as I'm wanting to brew a AIPA with galaxy.

3.50 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter (5.9 EBC)
1.00 kg Rye Malt (9.3 EBC)
0.50 kg Carared (39.4 EBC)
10.00 g Target [11.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min
30.00 g Willamette [5.50 %] - Boil 15.0 min
30.00 g Galaxy [14.00 %] - Boil 0.0 min
30.00 g Galaxy [14.00 %] - Dry Hop 0.0 Days

Advice?

Thanks

Done too many beers with bramling Cross recently though, need a change. Might try Hull Melon.

Sounds nice to me.

I've done many beers with Carared and rye. Carared doesn't really make beers red, but I've never used 500g. I find a small amount of roast barley in the mash at sparge time works better. Small as in an oz. its surprising the colour difference this makes.

I've done beers with upto 50 % rye! can't get enough of it. That was a saison and it was super dry tho. It can get sticky when mashing so worth putting in some rice or oat husks.

Si
