Is it destined for the drain?

Post by marcarm » Fri Dec 19, 2014 9:55 am

My second ever recipe that I designed myself was meant to be similar to a kit that I made a while ago. The kit listed elderflower as one of the ingredients, so I got some from my LHBS and 'dry hopped' with them for 6 days after fermentation had finished.

To be honest, I overdid it, I added the whole 50g in a 5g batch, and in reality all it really needed was half that, or maybe even less. The overwhelming flavour is now elderflower, and it is not a very pleasant drink at all.

Will the flavour mellow out over time or is it an experiment gone wrong that needs to be disposed of? I'm happy to leave it for a while as I don't need the bottles, but if it won't improve I might as well get shot.

another option could be to mix it with another beer to dilute the effect of the elderflower

I'd leave it, try it every 6 weeks or so, if no improvement after 12 months then consider binning it!

Cheers, think I'll leave it in the garage and see what happens.

The wife has got me graham wheelers book for Xmas so at least I can make recipes from there instead of trying to make them up and failing!
