Hey, just finished up brewing a simcoe smash. Its nothing overly spectacular but i adore this hop and cant wait to try it on its own and see how it performs. Here's the break down on the recipe. Id love some feedback if anyone has tried a simcoe smash and can offer advice etc on tweaking recipe. Thanks
20litre batch
6k maris otter pale 90min mash @ 66degrees celcius
Boil for 75mins
15g simcoe 75mins
20g simcoe 10mins
52.5g simcoe 20min steep at flame out
OG came out at 1.053
Wlp001 california yeast
After fermenting for 7days we will drop it onto 112.5g of simcoe and dry hop for afurther 7days before bottling.
Think the ibu on this worked out around 58.5. Quite a high alpha acid percentage on the crop i used at 15.5%
Would appreciate any critique on this.
Cheers.
In the fermenter: simcoe smash
Conditioning: motueka smash
In the fridge: optional hop ipa

Re: simcoe smash critique requested
I did a similar one last year.
25L
5Kg PA 66C for 90min
30g @60
20/20/20g @ 15/10/0
Used a test yeast.
Turned out nice with the hops clearly showing, since you are also dry hopping it would be a lot more nose on it than mine. I don't particularly like the APA style but if that is what you are aiming for then go for it.

This sounds good!
I got as far as...
Those hops are gonna shine!
I dry hopped an Amirillo SMASH with 50g of Amarillo and I loved it. I really do like this style of beer.

and thought, you should dry hop this. And then...Biganth wrote:

Cheers for the feedback. Yeah i do love the apa style. Hence the dry hopping for that big aroma and flavour punch. I love the simcoe hop. And hoping the 112.5g used in the dry hop really smashes me in the face when i open the bottle.
