Something just doesnt quite add up?..

Post by bigdave » Wed Feb 04, 2015 12:19 am

I created this recipe as 'my next brew' in October last year... and since then I've not found time to even consider recipes let alone actually brew them, so true to my word this is still going to be my next brew. ....BUT.... having revisited the recipe after almost 4 months, there's something about it that just seems wrong!? Theres A LOT of hops in there for a start but the IBU's still seem quite reasonable for the type of ale?..

Am I just being skeptical on this one or have I genuinely overlooked something?

5% AA seems very low for Dr Rudi, aren't they usually around 12-15%? I would personally move all the Bramling Cross additions towards the end of the boil and use Dr Rudi & Pacific Gem earlier for bittering. Just my personal love for Bramling Cross Flavour/Aroma though.

Not sure why you want torrified wheat and flaked barley? If it's for head retention one of those would suffice. I would then up the crystal to make it 5% of the grainbill. But it's your recipe. Maybe give it a go and see how it turns out :-)

I'm not really sure, The Dr Rudi was given to me and that's whats on the bag?.. Looking at Malt Miller etc.. it seems they should be around 12%AA so maybe theres some adjustment needed there? I'm quite a fan of BC too so will look at jiggling the additions around.
