Hi,
as a lover of Young's Ordinary & Special (and even a pint of "mixed") for over 40 years I was looking to do a Special clone. Noticed that Wyeast 'English Special Bitter' no 1768 was supposed to be from Youngs but doesn't seem to be available anymore.
So was wondering if it's worth trying to harvest the deposit in their bottled conditioned 'Bitter'. Or is this likely to be a conditioning yeast as opposed to the brew yeast?
Any thoughts? Anyone else tried this? Can anyone recommend an alternative yeast?
Young's yeast
Re: Young's yeast
I do not know about the yeast in a bottle of Youngs. But it was/is speculation that Wyeast 1768 is the Youngs strain, it is not, it is a secondary strain from Fullers, Wyeast 1318 London Ale III is the Youngs strain, which Wyeast had prior to Youngs selling to Wells. I don't expect anyone to take my word on that, but that is information directly from someone working in the lab @ Wyeast!Pegasus wrote:Hi,

Re: Young's yeast
I read a forum post recently by someone who wrote to Wyeast about 1318 and they wrote back saying it was Young's London brewery yeast.

Some web sites claim that 1318 is the Boddingtons strain although Wyeast say that it comes from a traditional London brewery.
Re: Odp: Young's yeast
Their "London Ale" strain comes from Burton, Bohemian Lager from Germany. Little liars.
