Extra Dark Crystal

Post by alexlark » Tue Feb 24, 2015 2:12 pm

A Brains SA recipe I'm looking at calls for 3900g Maris Otter Pale and 200g Extra Dark Crystal, SRM: 11.08

Using 3900g Maris Otter Pale and 200g Medium Crystal I'm a bit short on SRM. Can I get to where I want to be by using a small amout of Chocolate Malt?

It will get you to the desired colour, but the flavour will differ slightly.

Cheers

I don't wish to appear funny, but why don't you just get the dark crystal?

Good question, I probably will :D

I was just wondering if it would work with the Chocolate as I've only now started using brewing software. I was surprised how much a small amount of Chocolate Malt in the Hobgoblin clone changed the colour so much compared to the London Pride clone I did with my first BIAB.
