Hi all,
I somehow ended up with two 1.5kg cans of pale LME, probably because I ordered them for my winter celebration ale, and then forgot i had them and ordered them again. Hmm, age concern.
Anyway whilst pondering what to do with them (thinking session pale ale), I came across Buckie Brews' recipe from his January post and thought that's it. Something similar, but an extract brew rather than a. g.
So, any thoughts on this:
3kg Pale LME I
200 / 250g Pale Crystal malt
100 /200g Amber
100/ 200g Torrified Wheat
EKG @ 60
Epic @ 30 and 5
English ale yeast, as yet undecided.
Obviously I'm no expert, I only have a few beers completed, so I have shamelessly cadged some ideas from yourselves, especially Seymour and Buckie Brew. I hope you don't mind and possibly put me back on track if I've made a mistake with my intended brew!
I've used the Epic hops in the recipe because i already have them, although they were really for a kit tweak that hasn't happened yet. I've not put quantities in as I'm not sure.
May be a Pale Ale?

Re: May be a Pale Ale?
Ok, here's MKII
I'm struggling with a bloody little Samsung tablet thingy so I sort of rushed my first attempt at posting this. So here goes again :
2.60kg Pale Ale LME
225g Pale Crystal malt
125g Amber
120g Torrified Wheat
40g East Kent Golding @ 60 5%
15g Epic @30 4.5%
Whirlfloc @15
15g Epic @0
WLP007
Looking for OG 1.040
FG 1.010
Abv. 3.9
IBU 32ish
21 litres into the fv. Then keg about 12 litres and bottle the rest.

Re: May be a Pale Ale?
Having looked at this again (and again some more ), I can see that I've cocked up a bit. Firstly it's probably in the wrong section, i should have posted in the extract questions bit, just my youthful enthusiasm bubbling over. But then also I've just done some more research (as a result of having quite a few views but no comments! - numpty feeling ). Anyway, I have since learned that some of my grains are not to be steeped, so I'm really looking at a partial mash if I'm to continue with this brew.
So I'm going to hide in a corner somewhere, fiddle with the recipe a bit and try again. So watch this space - which will be elsewhere, in the right section.

Re: May be a Pale Ale?
It is a recipe so I guess you are in the right section and it seems reasonable to me, I would just put all your grain in to steep together, let us know how you get on.

Re: May be a Pale Ale?
Well, we've reached MKIII:
Partial mash
2,600g Pale LME
225g Crystal, 60 EBC
125g Amber
120g Torrified Wheat
400g Maris Otter
40g EKG, 5.6% @ 60mins
15g Epic, 3.3% @ 30mins
Whirlfloc @ 15mins
15g Epic @ flame out
WLP007, dry english ale yeast
Pre boil gravity (total volume) 1.038 - a little lower than the expected 1.040, but hey, it's for the summer.
Having read through my notes, I now see that I don't have the gravity into the F.V! Probably on the pop.
I did take photo's, but can't get them off my phone onto the laptop (grrr. just had to buy a new one as the old one died).
Anyway, my boiler slipped off the kitchen table while racking into the F.V. Causing some upset to SWMBO. Unpopular for a whole day. Fortunately, minimal beer loss.
Transferred to the back of the garage with the heater belt on and a slow start, but eventually bubbling away merrily after about 36 hours.
I'll probably keg before the weekend and will try and put the pictures up if I can work out how to transfer them. Where's a blooming teenager computer geek when you need one?!
I tasted it at all all gravity checks, and it was OK.
Thanks Chug for putting me back on track!
