Elvis Juice!
Re: Elvis Juice!
I love this beer and would like to have a bash at it.
I'm in an area with very hard water (south of Bristol) - any idea whether this would benefit from water treatment, or is it so distorted by the fruit that it doesn't matter at all!?

Re: Elvis Juice!
Depends on how much alkalinity is in that hard water so possibly it would. We would need to know more about your water to advise properly. I'm almost certain it would require the alkalinity to be reduced at the very least.

Re: Elvis Juice!
I think the salifert test shows at about 170, which if I remember correctly was in line with the water company report. It's fairly stable, and my understanding is that it's good for darker beers, but less so for light ones. Was just wondering how beer with such a distortion of fruit is affected by water.

Re: Elvis Juice!
You need to reduce that to 20-30. Alkalinity is the problem not the fruit. That's because the pH of the mash will be too high without reducing it. A high pH extracts tannins that in turn will lead to a greater harshness from the hop bitterness. With so much hop material in a beer like EJ it is clearly a key element to success with it.

@floyfmeddler, sounds great. SWMBO and I had some Elvis Juice in Norwich Brewdog a couple of weeks ago and we both liked it (we both love grapefruit juice, but normally she's not one for fruity beers). Might just give this a go, when I've got to the end of my current list of planned brews. I hope you don't mind me stealing your recipe

Fermenting: Cherry lambic

Re: Elvis Juice!
I can't make the Norfolk meet on 12th, but planning the Essex one (with Peter Darby speaking, I believe) in Feb and the Suffolk (Ipswich) in March.
After that, it all gets hazy! (b)
