Fixed Wheel Brewery Blackheath Stout
Fixed Wheel Brewery Blackheath Stout
Has anyone got a clone recipe for this beer?
I remember having it at the Winter CAMRA festival and thinking it was superb.... and it went on to win gold Champion Winter Beer of Britain 2020
I'd like to brew a clone soon for drinking this winter. My first thoughts based on drinking a bottle of it yesterday and info on their website:
OG1051 60IBU
Maris Otter (75%)
Wheat Malt (10%)
Chocolate Malt EBC1000 (10%)
Dark Crystal EBC260 (5%)
Bramling Cross @60 mins 42 IBU
30 g Pacific Gem @10 mins 18 IBU
S-04 yeast
Any thoughts, suggestions or insights would be appreciated!
Cheers,
Rob

10% chocolate malt seems quite a lot, 5% would be more usual for a stout (I've never had the beer though).
Never enough time...

There’s no other roast malt in the recipe though so 10% chocolate seems on the light side if anything.
Re: Fixed Wheel Brewery Blackheath Stout
True. I've found a stout recipe in one of Graham Wheeler's books which contains chocolate malt as it's only roasted malt (Burton Bridge Top Dog Stout). That is 7% of the grist.
So 10% is probably fine.
Never enough time...

Why not message Scott at the brewery with your recipe and ask him if you’re going in the right direction he started as a home brewer and is very friendly always ready to discuss beer with other home brewers.
Re: Fixed Wheel Brewery Blackheath Stout
I’ll second that. I live a few miles from the brewery, and have visited the tap house there a few times.
The brewery although small has a very good reputation locally, and staff are very friendly.
You may hit the jackpot!

Thanks for the tips guys.
Emailing the brewer is a really good shout. The brewery it's not too far from where my folks live so next time I'm up that way I will visit.

Blackheath stout has won awards and we always have fixed wheel at our festival, the brewery is well worth a visit.

Would be very interested in his reply, really enjoyed the same Stout courtesy of my brother in law, who regularly buys from that excellent microbrewery.
