Hi Dave

As you like Hophead, make sure you pop in the Evening Star in Brighton.

Google Map Info

GBBF was great. Lots of great beers. Good US and Belgian brews too.
Only complaint was there wasn't enough time to try them all :)

Brewed this one yesterday,

Used a mix of Lager malt and Maris otter, I also used 50% Centennial in the final addittion, and due to some weighing scale issues i actually came out with a gravity of 1045. I used US05 at the last minute rather than my pack of Nottingham which seemed nearly solid inside (might ditch that one).

So in short i'm hoping it will turn out well, but probably a bit more like their American Pale Ale :-D Which is a great beer, but not radically different on cask I find.

Ed
the new ones are vacuum packed not packed in nitrogen ,if its one of them, that could be why it feels solid ed

We went to Lewes for crawl The Snowdrop which I thought was the best pub of the day had HOP HEAD on which was not as hoppy as my home brew and I was disappointed with there brew. When we went back to Brighton, Evening Star also had it but I went for there Carafa Jade and bottle of espresso,Lewes is well worth a trip again.Talking to a friend about brewing he tells me that park farm brewery are having problems getting hops as the demand is high with the big brewery's ordering large quantity's than normally.

if its 6 month old i doubt if its vacuum packed.......iirc this is a recent development, not worth spoiling a beer with suspect yeast imo, id lob it. the brewers packs are 500g of solidly vacuum packed squareness :D

Hi
I noticed today in CAMRA newsletter that The Evening Star in Brighton (original home of Hophead) got named one of the 16 UK regional pubs of the year.

Well worth a visit. :D

Hi,

Brewed this clone recently and after sampling it (tasted pretty close to me) we decide to walk to the Stand Up Inn (a Dark Star pub in Lindfield) to have a comparison pint. Gasp! It was shut and empty! :( nothing on the DS website about it so just a warning to those that pop in occasionally.

Cheers

There's an exchange of views on beer in the evening about this.

I find where I go, Hophead can be immensely hoppy one week and completely bland the next. It is extremely variable.

Next beer is my 59th brew but the one after that will be hophead. Gives me a chance to use up some old cascade. Instead of Cara I'll use up some old CaraMunich II and carared. Besides, It*ll be January and I will need a lower gravity beer by then, but don't want to compromise on flavour.

I should have done some research before a recent trip to Brighton.
We had some Hotel du Vin vouchers to use so booked a couple of nights and I was pleased to see that their pub served Hophead but when we visited it was off :(
Hotel du Vin is overpriced IMO though.

I love Hophead so after changing the the hops to Citra I have gone back to Cascade should be good for the end of may. :)
