No iodine in salt isn't natural as pure salt is simply sodium chloride, NaCl. The iodine in iodised salt, which I believe is potassium iodide, is simply used as a food additive in to prevent thyroid problems in areas where it is deficient.

Don't think it's used much in the UK although I may be wrong. Most of the salt I've seen tend to be around 95% salt i.e. sodium chloride with the rest comprising of anticaking agents magnesium oxide and or sodium hexacynoferrate II

I'd be more worried about the snap, crackle and pop effect!

I thought that the iodine was removed rather than added :)

As I said only only did a brief amount of research so don't know much about the properties (and I only got a GCSE 'C' in chemistry)

I'm intrigued by this. Did you get around to brewing it yet PoP?

I'll be brewing it hopefully next week (depending on when my grain arrives). If I don't get my grain when I expect it then it will be shortly after christmas

Bought myself all of the required cereal. I was originally going to buy Kellogg's but after checking the salt content, there was so little difference that I bought Morrison's Own - the price difference really made a difference!!! I did forget to buy the oats but a quick visit to Sainsbury's sorted that one out for me.

The plan was to brew on Friday. I have been 'on call' at work in the evenings and as a result I get the Friday off work. Perfect for me as I don't need to use any holiday.

SWMBO wasn't too pleased when I mentioned my plans. She subtly reminded me that it was her Birthday on Saturday and since she was going to a Hen Party (an all day thing) then we were spending the day together. Oops.

She did say that I could brew in the morning but didn't understand that it was a brew DAY and wouldn't be a quick thing! On the plus side, she is shopping for a dress for the wedding so I have the morning to myself. This WILL be spent in the pub with a book - I don't get to go to my favourite pub (The Hobgoblin in Reading) and I take every advantage I can. Great pub tending to only sell guest beers. They have Budvar lager on tap as a permanent (only lager sold in the bar). Everything else is Real Ale. Very funny when people come in asking if they can have a pint of Guinness or Stella etc. Some people just don't seem to understand that only decent beer is sold :)

So, instead of brewing I'll be drinking. Only thing left to do is book a day off work instead. I'll probably take next Friday off instead.

Edit: Just booked 19th Jan off to brew me some beer

You're a better husband than me PoP. If my wife was spending all saturday to herself I'd be keeping the day off to meself.

(No offence intended btw :) ).

No offence taken. Now under normal circumstances I would have the day to do my own thing. The only issue is that I have to look after my daughter. Being 20 months old means she is too young to help me brew and not old enough to look after herself.... My day is shot!

PoP I'm intrigued I've only done one stout myself

A small oversight :) I'll probably throw in 300g (a bit less than usual. Will put it into the recipe when I have time and work out exactly how much I'll be adding.
