Punk IPA success anyone?
Re: Punk IPA success anyone?
Good idea. You've also got Deeside brewery out at the Desside activity park. Cairngorm Brewery in Aviemore and Black Isle on guess what? The Black isle!
Re: Punk IPA success anyone?
Just went to Tesco for some Black Isle after getting a bit of a craving from looking at their website, and found Punk IPA for 99p a bottle! score! £1 for 77 lager too!
Re: Punk IPA success anyone?
Any plans for this yet?
I had a bottle last week and it tasted totally different to when I had it a few months prior.
I got a big hit of Nelson Sauvin in this one

Ahtanum hops are decent however if you have a choice between them and Amarillo or Cascade then I think that Ahtanum loses the battle . The flavour and aroma just don't compare , for my senses anyway.mysterio wrote:Lots of info about it on their website, let us know what you come up with. Ahtanum and NS aren't the easiest hops to come by at a fair price.

I've noticed the same - it's very inconsistent in taste. It's always hoppy, but it's not always the same hops!mysterio wrote:Any plans for this yet?

Re: Punk IPA success anyone?
Seconded! I also tried it side by side with Punk Monk (the same beer, but fermented with Belgian yeast) and they tasted completely different!
Re: Punk IPA success anyone?
Nothing to do with Punk IPA but i am sitting onshore in Gabon, port gentil and the local beer tastes just like tennants lager, tried to find someone who could get us a brewery tour but to no avail:
Also tried guiness foereign export for the first time; its the dogs danglies and at 7.5 abv has to be taken carefully just in case, completely blows the mainlad uk version out the water. Ah, the joys of this hobby are unending. Off for another FES, somebody mentioned going up to brewdogs place in the brock for a tour, did it happen. Heard througha mate of ,ine that they are opening a bottling plant in Potterton; This has been q good yeqr for the company i think, slater gators. This is the colour of my skin

Re: Punk IPA success anyone?
Here's the recipe based on Stoat's info from the brewery, cheers Stoat.
Rounded up the numbers and based the AA% on whats available. In the absence of Ahtanum I would suggest Cascade. Allow half the late (0 min) hops to steep for 30 mins after the boil, and add the other half in 10 mins before chilling. US-05 for the yeast. Any info on yeast pitching rate & temperatures etc?

Re: Punk IPA success anyone?
oh balls, i forgot to asks in the end. we were just using a few buckets of yeast from a previous batch of punk, as you said though its us-05. they use nottingham too i think but not in this. they had it fermenting at about 20 - 22oCmysterio wrote:Any info on yeast pitching rate & temperatures etc?
Re: Punk IPA success anyone?
Nottingham must be new. When I was there they had 3 yeasts. The House ale one (english ale of some sort), US-05 and Saflager W34/70. As well as a Belgian strain for the Basha.Stoat on a rope wrote:oh balls, i forgot to asks in the end. we were just using a few buckets of yeast from a previous batch of punk, as you said though its us-05. they use nottingham too i think but not in this. they had it fermenting at about 20 - 22oCmysterio wrote:Any info on yeast pitching rate & temperatures etc?
What did they use Nottingham for?
Re: Punk IPA success anyone?
im probably wrong about nottingham, i can remember if they mentioned it or i just imagined it, i was assuming that was english ale yeast. i was given that same list too, again i might be wrong but there might be another lager yeast for the zeitgeist. im hoping to go back in the new year, prob february/march, il ask more about yeast next time.
