Just recently got into Hamilton over the last 18 months . . .the commonwealth saga was great . . . looking forward to the Temporal void for my holiday in Turkey "Water walker, Water walker".
Wasn't keen on the Nights Dawn trilogy though . . .even though it was well written . . . just not into horror SF genre that much I guess . . . have to get the Greg Mandel stuff as well
Turkeys a great holiday destination. I've been going there on and off since 93. Last year we went to Turunc which is 2 bays away from Marmaris. Totally chilled and very family orientated resort. Not a single pissed up divot in site. Apart from me of course! Where are you off to? Efes darks not a bad beer to try. We all make better but in a basic Lager enviroment its nice to see something different.
I nearly killed myself in Turkey.....I did an "SIV" course (Simulation d'Incident en Vol) in Olu Deniz when I used to fly paragliders. Basically, you launched off Baba Dag mountain behind the resort, which was about 6K foot high, caught the thermals and flew out over the bay, then an instructor in a boat below told you by radio which bits of the glider to collapse or mess with in flight. The idea being it was a safe environment to try this stuff in, so that if you got into trouble, you'd have plenty of time (and a soft landing) to sort it out.
I did a "dynamic spin" exercise one day and couldn't get the glider out of it. I ended up corkscrewing down to earth very quickly indeed and due to the G force, couldn't get my reserve 'chute out until about 50 foot before I hit the water. It felt like bloody concrete and my entire back was black and blue afterwards....
On the positive side, when that didn't happen, the flying was awesome (especially the cross country stuff), but the best bit was pulling off perfect landings on the beach. The beach bar there had a special landing mat, and if you hit if smack on, the waiters had a cold beer in your hand before the glider even touched the sand. Very cool indeed.
