Thornbridge Kipling recipe????
Re: Thornbridge Kipling recipe????
I brewed something else, an IPA with chinook, simcoe, nelson & citra. I will put this on the list though.

I've got a full pack of Chinook. I was planning using all of it ( mostly as late additions ) in my next brew. Got a pack of Amarillo too, which do you think would give the best results in a 4.2% ish pale malt only brew?
Cheers Tom

Amarillo probably. Chinook works better in stronger brews I reckon. You could use a little for bittering then save your Amarillo for late.

Re: Thornbridge Kipling recipe????
Hi
Well this is the exact recipe I am following
2L starter of Californian V Ale Yeast WLP051
4.6kg Marris otter
0.4KG Munich
0.4Kg Torrified wheat (What does Torrified mean?)
60 mins boil
60 mIns 21 grm NS
30 mins 15 grm NS
10 mins add Servomyces Yeast Nutrient, and Yeast Neurient
Cool to 27C put in fermenter and pitch yeast
Put at 23C until it is yeast is firing, (Normally about 1-2hrs) then Leave fermeneter for 6 days at 20C
Purge secondary with CO2 then Transfer to Secondary (20C) , after 2 days add 64Gm NS
Leave for 6 days
Put in King keg and bottle with approx 1 cup of Light DME
(At present it is in the secondary with the NS, and Keg/bott on Sat---so far it seems promising)

Can't wait to hear how this turns out
I love Kipling, it's getting nearer to the top of my to-do beer list
Cheers Tom

Re: Thornbridge Kipling recipe????
Ive just put this through Beer Engine and it roughly comes out at 102 BU is that right???
Re: Thornbridge Kipling recipe????
Hi
It shouldn't be, beer engine works it as 43 based on NS being 13.5
(I'm only using 100gm in total)

Another NS beer that I had was Kernel brewery (They do some great beers), they did a single hop NS IPA and that had alot more of the passionfruit in it, and was lighter than I recall Kipling being. You can get their beers here, although they only brew in batches, and there is no NS beer there are the moment.

Snap, sort of. The only time I've had it was on a break away with the missus to Newport and had it during the beer festival, the stock they had lasted for the duration of our stay although they can't have had much left by the time I'd finished

Re: Thornbridge Kipling recipe????
Hi
Just bottled and keged it. And it tastes pretty good to me, and is kipplingesk
In my mind I'm thinking it may need a touch more sweetness (small amount of amber malt?), and maybe spilt the amount that I dry hopped. EG put have in when the wort is at 80C for about 20/30 mins the cool and ferment, then dry hop the rest for 7 days.
But hey, it is early days and my beers change after a month conditioning.
I will update when it
