Nice one mate, hope you're happy with it.. no pressure on me or anything I worked out the entire recipe using the "Beer Engine", Graham Wheeler's Beer Engine calculator located here: http://www.practicalbrewing.co.uk/calcu ... eerengine/

I looked at other beers EBC's to get an idea.

Bad news for mine, turns out the lid was leaking in my King Keg so after drawing off a couple of pints it got air in it which ruined it. Can't say I'm too impressed with that King Keg, first the tap leaked, now the lid and I think it's leaking from the valve. I've got an old Edme one I got from Boots about 15 years ago and have never had these problems.

On the plus side, I'm gonna have to make another one now

Kegman, I'm gutted for you!

I bottle all my beers, I know it takes longer but I prefer them that way, they condition quicker and they don't leak!

Something else I noticed today, you're ABV was 4.0% but when I put it into Beer Alchemy it said 3.8%.
I'm wondering about the accuracy of Beer Alchemy, the colour was lighter and the ABV lower.

I've adjusted the recipe to make it 4% but I'm having second thoughts and think I should keep it as you've posted so we can compare.

What's your thoughts?

Not what I expected, very little CO2, so almost draught in a bottle. Will definitely buy again and makes a change to hophead beers.

Well the yeast has been pitched.

All went well except mine is an amber colour as Beer Alchemy said it would be!

What is the EBC on your MO and Crystal?

Exciting stuff! It is quite amber BTW, it's not like a golden summer ale although it does taste a bit like one.

No I haven't, I was in my LHBS yesterday, local being 24 miles away, picking up the Northdown hops for your recipe when I saw the Cascade and thought I've heard a lot about these hops so bought them.
When I got home I had a quick search on here for info on what type of beer they have been used in and then came up with the recipe on Beer Alchemy.

There's a post on here about Cascade, the poster is using them for the first time as well and has come up with his own recipe too.
I think the post was titled 'first time with Cascade'.

Going back to the Northdown Hops, how fantastic do the smell!!!
And the Styrian Goldings!!

I'm wanting to get away from the Fuggles and Goldings Combo so a great start!

They are lovely hops, I chose them from reading descriptions and trying to guess which would work best for Betty Stoggs & it is good to get away from the norm too as you say. I was wrong somewhere though, pretty sure Styrian is right but Betty Stoggs has a particular taste that I can't place as yet.. Still, it makes a good beer anyway!

I've made another batch today, my OG was 1054, quite a way off as the engine suggested 1040. Last time I made it I messed up when measuring it so wasn't exactly sure what it was.... what was yours?

I should be bottling my Betty this w/e but im away in Bristol visiting my old folk.
It might get done tomorrow if not it'll be Monday.

I can't remember off hand what my og was, it was probably higher than expected as I'm using Tipple pale malt and achieving 90% + mash efficiency!

I've got a bottle of BS ready to sample when mine is ready and will post pic's when I taste test.

How are you achieving 90%+ mash efficiency? Is it all down to the Tipple pale malt?

I believe so, have a look at it on the copper kettle website.

Pre boil target gravity was 1.029, actual was 1.034
Post boil target gravity was 1.038, actual was 1.041!

Just checked, actual mash efficiency was 89.6%.

Another own recipe beer I made, experimenting with 'hop bursting', I achieved 90.9% efficiency!
