An interesting discussion, but I think you boys across the pond are looking at this from a purely American perspective. Traditionally the IPA was made with just kettle hops and maybe a handful of late additions to make life a bit more interesting, but maybe not. The complex hop bill in your recipe seymour or the continuous hopping of the west coast IPAs is not a traditional English IPA at all. Although a lot of current home brewers in the UK, including myself enjoy the American hops and a complex mix of late additions, traditionally we like our beers big and bitter and if you are fortunate enough to have a look around any UK city centre after midnight on a Friday or Saturday night you will also find that with regards to "doable" once the beer goggles are firmly in place we will "do" anything after a few pints of anything.Scotty Mc wrote:And the quote of the year goes to Barley Water!
