After reviewing all the advice on here, hunting other recipes and reading some more of the IPA book I got the feeling that although my recipe looked good it just wasn't quite...DOOM enough for its name. So...


Dr. Doom IPA (English IPA)

Original Gravity (OG): 1.066 (°P): 16.1
Final Gravity (FG): 1.014 (°P): 3.6
Alcohol (ABV): 6.81 %
Colour (SRM): 8.3 (EBC): 16.3
Bitterness (IBU): 59.7 (Tinseth)

81.13% Pale Ale Malt (Crisp)
8.49% Invert Sugar/Golden Syrup
5.28% Caramalt
2.83% Munich I
2.26% Crystal 120

1.4 g/L Target (10.2% Alpha) @ 90 Minutes (First Wort)
0.6 g/L Challenger (6.5% Alpha) @ 20 Minutes (Boil)
0.6 g/L East Kent Golding (6.45% Alpha) @ 20 Minutes (Boil)
0.6 g/L Fuggles (4.4% Alpha) @ 20 Minutes (Boil)
1.2 g/L Challenger (6.5% Alpha) @ 10 Minutes (Boil)
1.2 g/L East Kent Golding (6.45% Alpha) @ 10 Minutes (Boil)
1.2 g/L Fuggles (4.4% Alpha) @ 10 Minutes (Boil)
1.2 g/L Challenger (6.5% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Aroma)
1.2 g/L East Kent Golding (6.45% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Aroma)

0.3 g/L Gypsum (Calcium Sulfate) @ 0 Minutes (Mash)
0.2 g/L Epsom Salt (MgSO4) @ 75 Minutes (Boil)
0.1 g/L Whirlfloc Tablet @ 20 Minutes (Boil)

Single step Infusion at 67°C for 75 Minutes. Boil for 75 Minutes

Fermented at 19°C with Wyeast 1098 - British Ale

Fermenting -
Conditioning - Meads - Raspberry Melomel yeast test, Vanilla Cinnamon Metheglyn, Orange Melomel.
Drinking - Youngs AAA Kit; Leatherwood Traditional Mead, Cyser, Ginger Metheglyn.
Planning - Some kits until I can get back to AG, then a hoppy porter, Jim's ESB, some American Red.
