Yeah it can be a bit slow if you just dry pitch. Rehydration helps speed it up a bit. Its a great yeast once it does. I reckon it'll work a treat in an ESB.ArmChair wrote:leedsbrew wrote:Not as yet fella! Not had chance to get a brew day on in a few weeks, but! The plan is to get this on on Wednesday!
I'm planning on using either a 2L starter of Kolsch yeast I've got going or the Mangrove Jack Burton Yeast as I haven't managed to get a starter of wlp051 going yet either. Haven't nailed that dow yet. Either way I think I'm going to mash at 68 to try and keep a good amount of body in the beer.
Have you used the button union yeast before?
I did a ESB yesterday using this yeast, And just chucked a packet on the brew, got to say, its a bit slow at getting going

From Mangrove jack
Rehydration Instructions
Although Mangrove Jack’s Craft Series Yeasts do not require pre-hydration, cleaner and more professional results may be produced if rehydrated
before use.
For all strains except the Bohemian Lager Yeast, add the sachet contents
to 100ml of water previously adjusted to a temperature between 86–95°F (30–35°C). For Bohemian Lager Yeast, rehydrate using 3.4 fl.oz (100 ml) of 68–77°F (20–25°C) water. Stir gently
into a yeast cream for between 8 and 12 minutes then add yeast cream directly to wort. Alternatively the dry yeast
can be added directly into the wort by sprinkling onto the surface and leaving to stand for 10-15 minutes before stirring.
Re: Golden Condor Pale Ale
Thanks for that, I've always dry pitched my yeast, except when I brewed using the us west coast and reused it once with really good results! Think I will rehydrate them in future

Re: Golden Condor Pale Ale
Well this bee ris due to be brewed on Monday after being put off a few times due to work and other things.
Still a bit up in the air regarding yeast as I now have a great big kolsch starter ready to go and one each of most of the mangrove jack craft yeast. Will have a ponder this weekend!
If I pull ones finger out and get up in time I may just squeeze in a good old fashioned double brew day in!

I'm brewing an IPA tomorrow with a blend of El Dorado, Simcoe and Centennial. Hoping those fabled pear notes come through. May go heavy handed with the El Dorado with an aroma steep.
