Re: 14 session beer recipes
Victory is just Briess's biscuit malt and Goldpils Vienna is just their branded Vienna. Sub with European equivalents and you should get roughly similar.

These three grain substitute charts all give amber as the sub for Victory...nbpicklesno2 wrote:I think I'll give the American mild a go.

A fine set of links there. You must spend your life researching for obscure beer related info. I've just got hold of the Durden Park 'Old British Beers' book and thought that was obscure but your links cut the mustard. I'd love to have a copy of your bookmarks.These three grain substitute charts all give amber as the sub for Victory...

On the other hand........probably not a good idea

Death by bookmark.
Tbh I just googled grain substitution chart and those three came up. Looked at three, all said amber malt.

Looks like it is a biscuit rather than amber malt but you can definitely find it in the UK anyway if you don't want to sub (pretty sure Brew UK ware not the only supplier I saw with it).

Hey gang!
Glad to see y'all are enjoying the Session Beer Article. Some of us are trying to push back on that whole "hey, 5, 5 and half percent is a session beer" thing.
Would love to know what you guys think of the recipes and how they turn out. As it happens, I'm putting together round 2 of recipes right now so if you have any pointers to recipes you wish your American cousins knew about give me a link or drop me an email - drew@experimentalbrew.com

Cheers Drew, it struck me as a great bunch of low ABV recipes, from great sources, and with a lot of variety. I want to do the Rye Wit, and the table saison appeals. Probably others too, the East LA lager looks interesting. Look forward to round two!
I'm sure there are people here with some solid recipes in the 3 - 4.5% zone.

Re: 14 session beer recipes
My hope is to show people that the whole session beer notion isn't boring and not necessarily tied to the world of British/Commonwealth inspired beer styles. (Is that a stoning offense to say on a British homebrewing site?
)
