Re: JBK Own ESB
I'll have to brew it again but using the recently available London Esb dried yeast and see how different it tastes from s-04

Re: JBK Own ESB
Is this recipe for 19 litres in the fermenter? Roughly 21 liters post boil?
Re: JBK Own ESB
It would be really interesting to brew this using your own tap water without treatment (except for campden) and then swap bottles around the country to see how different water profiles affect the finished product.
Re: JBK Own ESB
Been too busy with work so not been doing much brewing for a while
I got a grainfather only used it once, unfortunately the brew came out really over carbonated, not sure why.
Anyway I've just ordered fresh ingredients to have a go at a JBK ESB
I've been really enjoying bitters and esb at my local micro pub but looking forward to producing something as nice.
I'll let you know how I got on once i get brewing

Re: JBK Own ESB
Can any Grainfather brewers, help me with doing a Jim's esb, need lots of help with what amount of each grain, recommended batch size, mash and sparge water volumes.
A brief explanation on how you calculate these would be good.

Re: JBK Own ESB
For a start do you use the grainfather recipe app?
Re: JBK Own ESB
Not yet, but I've got all the ingredients for this and am keen to get a brew on, will be the second use of my GF, just looking for someone more experienced in these matters to guide me straight to the correct grain quantities whilst I get more familiar with the kit
Re: JBK Own ESB
To make it easier for yourself use the recipe creator app. Then if you have the connect controller use the connect app which will pull the recipe from the recipe app. This will give you all the water volumes as in strike and sparge water volumes. Go for a volume of say 25l and input the grain types and weights from the posted Jims ESB recipe. At the bottom of the app it shows a type of bar graph which shows the abv, ebc etc based on the amounts of grain and hops you entered. You can then play around with the grsin weights to get the abv and ebc etc you want.
Re: JBK Own ESB
Well I've missed the opportunity to brew today, can anyone help with my original question of what the weights of the ingredients would be to brew the jbk esb on a grainfather
I have a new question too, where do I find the recipe creator app

Re: JBK Own ESB
I found the online recipe creator, came up with the amounts, I'll post what I came up with might be useful for other grain father users in the future
Re: JBK Own ESB
Ok I've been playing with the recipe creator, how does this look
23 litre
75% brewhouse efficiency
4500 grams Maris otter
265 grams crystal
265 grams caramalt
265 grams torrified wheat
60 grams challenger 8.2 AA 60 min boil
40 grams progress hops 15min boil
40 grams East Kent golding 10min hop stand
Wyeast British ale II 1335
3 grams Irish moss 10 min boil
17.78litres mash/strike water
14.45litres sparge water
Can anyone see anything wrong here, should this make a drinkable beer?
I would like to brew today if you think it looks ok feedback would be appreciated
