OK everyone one more question if i fail to get the required mash temperture for most of the 90mins [65-67degrees] instead hitting 60 degrees would this effect the mash efficiency by much and if it does should i mash longer?

Missed this one DaaB and am sorry to hear that. What a terrible situation for someone so into brewing!

Fingers crossed that the investigations lead to a more hopeful outcome....

Sympathies, DaaB.

That really bites.
I've only known you for like 2 days, but you've been brilliant already.

Also seemed to have missed it.
Very sorry to hear about that DaaB - Let's hope it's not too bad and the prognosis is good.

Or if adding hot water is going to thin your mash to much or over flow your tun you can always take some runnings off your mash and boil them and then add them back. A semi-decoction you could say.

Besides it's looking increasingly likely that I have hung up my brewing paddle for the last time Wink
That's a bugger, especially after you've given so many people help with their brewing. I hope the doc's wrong.

Oh....bastard. What a rotten deal of the cards. I'm sorry to hear it, and I hope they get it sorted out for you. It's a cruel blow considering how keen on brewing you so obviously are.

Have you read 'The Mayor of Casterbridge' That's the source of your quote. Quite a good description of Thomas hardy's Ale - Eldridge Pope's famous barley wine.
