Hi Joe!

This looks like another great recipe! One more for the 'to do list'!
I will get a couple of bottles of duvel in to culture up the yeast :)

I've thought about making my own candi sugar before, now I have the best excuse!
What fermentation temprature did you decide on?

Cheers!

Hi Guy,

Its sitting at 15 dgrees at the moment but will be slowly ramped up as the fermentation progresses. 20 degrees will do me as the top end. The Yeast in the duvel is not the primary yeast during their fermentation. That's why i went for the Chimay as well(idea being that one will work well). Its all good fun though! Looking forward to seeing your 1st ag brewday. What you got planned?

A single picture from this morning to show the colour.

I now drip a few drops of yeast into my final hydro sample for something to see working. Saves me going into the FV until the hydro sample is fermented out.

Hi!

I've got my grain order from Brewzer (Cheers Adam!) from this forum :)

Great looking beer!

So I'm just waiting for the weather to cool off a little (along with SWMBO's temper)
Mysterios 'SNPA' clone or the Caledonoian IPa from Graham wheelers BYOBRA...

I am then thinking of a belgian blonde or your Mid Atlantic IPA...

I dont have to rush tho' as i brewed throughout early spring to ensure a good supply of beer for the summer!
:)

I'm sure I'll be converted after the first sample, although I'm enjoying planning my brews I'm keen to get started!
:D

Cheers!

With what appears to be no effort whatsoever(krausen barely formed) this beer is sitting at 1.020 this morning. Its the first sample i have drawn from the bottom to rid the conical of some debris!

That's the way to go mate. When i went back and tried some of my bottled kit/extract brews after a couple of months of AG i tipped the lot down the drain with not a seconds thought or pang. In saying that i also do the same with some of my remainders of early AG brews. Either i'm getting picky or my beers improving. :D

Just to rekindle the literary part of this thread....

Good call on the Tim Powers books by the way!

I've finished "The drawing of the Dark" and "The Anubis Gates". Both were thoroughly enjoyable and he writes really well. I've now got "Last Call" (which is good so far - almost in a kind of Gaiman "American Gods" way), and "Earthquake Weather"....

Excellent, I'm glad you've found a new author. Horrabin's one scary character! Last Call is good. A similar book to that by TP would be Expiration date where the ghost of Thomas Edison is trapped in a bottle.....

Bottled this today as a punishment for overimbiding last night at the Aberdeen Beer Festival. Stunning(literally) Chimay/Duvel smell with Chimay in the lead. Lots of pear drops and bananas with something slightly spicy going on in the smell. Had a taste and its good, very dry but far too 'Belgian' at the moment. Will see how it mellows over a couple of months, Keeping a sample of the yeast for next time out which will be something dark! Had to force myself to keep to my original name, that guy STILL scares me!

Once again back to the literary stuff.

Many years ago, I read mountains of science fiction/fantasy, from EE Doc Smith through Aldis, Anthony, Asimov, Banks, Barker, Blish, Clarke, Farmer, Heinlein, Pohl etc (to name but a few) but I got diverted by the Wife into the likes of Brooks, Eddings, Feist, McCaffrey.....
I then felt like a change, going through e.g. Clancey, Connelly, Deighton, Flynn, Forbes, Forsyth, Kellerman, Ludlum, Patterson, Pratchett, Reichs, Seymour, Silva, Stevens, Strong and lately all the McDermids.
I like to get the complete works of an author and read through in chronological order - to see the development of Style, Characters and the Author themselves. (Best to miss out the first few of Follett's though!)

Thanks to you Bugas, my interest in SF has been re-awakened. This is part of my current "to read" pile:

You might recognise some of the right hand pile, courtesy of Play and fleabay. (I hate Amazon..... )

I usually read instead of TV. The TV I do watch is stripped of trailers and adverts first, and I wait until the whole series is on the server, preferably in HD, before watching.

Just clocked the Tim powers books and Neil Gaiman, when were you at my house then? Bookcases are ace.

Whilst on the Novel theme, i attended a meeting last week where we were discussing the effects of chemical weapons, nerve agents and suffocants on the next job i'm meant to be going on. They weren't pleased when i brought up radiation, geiger counters and how do we trust Vladimir Putin's word. Good old Mr Ex KGB, sounds like a bad plot from an action novel doesn't it? All true though.

No Critch i have not. I'll be needing a few books for the holiday this summer so he'll be on the list(do you have a favourite of his). Nice co-incidence, just finished brew like a monk. Its a good read and worth a repeat read i think. Also just finished radical brewing by Randy Mosher and THAT book is a cracker!
