I've brewed two Scrotum-clones in the past month.
One of my recipes http://www.forumforfree.com/forums/inde ... topic=1009.
1.5 kg of Elderflower
Is there any chance you can post a detailed breakdown on how you brewed this in 4 hours ? I'm around 5-6 hours.
Cheers

Well my brewday is as follows (hope i can make it make sense).
i suppose the 4hrs would be a bit more if you count me weighing the grain out the night before but hey.
so the night before i weigh out my grain, fill my HLT with my mash liquor and get my mash tun down from the loft (only takes about 15mins anyway).
i set a plugtimer to get my mash liquor up to ~78C for when i am planning a brew (so this essentially doesnt count as brew time).
So i put the liquor into the MT at ~78 put the lid on and let it cool to around 73 (or whatever strike temp, this 78 basically preheats the MT) time 10mins (if it hasnt cooled i will add cool water)
Dough in and check temp, time 5 mins
Mash 90mins (in the meantime set up boiler, cooling, weigh hops, tidy a bit, and have a cup of tea or a beer) i dont check the temp halfway through mashing as havent found it neseccasy but it would only take a min)
Re-circ and sparge 40mins.
just as the element is covered i will turn the element on in the boiler to start raising the temp, as more run off goes in i will swithch on the 2nd as appropriate.
by the time i have run off the liqour is pretty much boiling but lets add 10mins anyway
add hops and boil 60 mins (while boiling clean MT, do more tidying, have another tea or beer, stand over the boiler admiring the smell and/or chill out)
after 60mins run boiling wort through CFC for a min or two, then turn on cooling water, cooling 20mins (this i think can be reduced)
mover fermenter to brewing cuboard.
total time 235 mins (just under 4hrs)
i would definately recomend setting a timer of a sort to heat mash liquor since this saves me about 30mins. i suppose if you are using gas to heat then this may be tricky. but even then it sould only be about 4 hrs 30. you could always weigh the grain in that 30mins.
the first time i brewed it took about 6hrs which i think is too long as it was getting annoying, but with the better cooling and organisation i find it no hassle at all now.
getting the hang of this now!!!

Very interesting!
I posted a brew breakdown to the uk-homebrew list last year and it was around 6 hours for a 10 gallon brew. I don't think any one challenged the timing. I'll try to re-surrect this post, if I can find it.
Dough-in for me takes at least twenty minutes.
To raise 10 gallons of liquor to a temperature suitable for mashing takes between 30m-60m with my setup (a 3kw boiler).
Your boil time seems really short. I would never boil for less than 90 minutes. A short mash, I can understand, but to my mind, a short boil risks a poor hot break etc.
I batch sparge and it takes anything up to two hours!
I use an immersion chiller and it takes at least half an hour.
