BLENCATHRA BITTER Hesket Newmarket brewery

25 litre batch OG 1035 ABV 3.1%

PALE MALT 3304 gms
CRYSTAL MALT 509 gms
CHOCOLATE MALT 116 gms

HOPS boil time 90 minutes

FUGGLES 28 gms
GOLDINGS 30 gms No EBU given I have calculated for 28 EBU

Add 10 gms HALLERTAU last 15 minutes.

Yeast of your choice.
Thinking of this one for our next AG.
I wanted something fairly simple. I really like this beer and I like the brewery, so thought it would be a good one.

Was thinking of S04 yeast, and brewing 23l instead of 25. Does that sound OK?

Safale has proved bland on a few occasions for me.

Did a 10 gal batch with it a few years ago, Should have been a balanced 4% light golden bitter with a decent hop aroma.

Racked into a Firkin, warm for 1 week, pub cellar for two.

Tapped and spiled - fell bright in a couple of hours.

We put it on handpump and let the punters at it, the 9gal went in less than 20 mins, but to me the beer was quite bland, and the hop character was muted.

Did another tiny brew with it recently, and it does seem to have done a bit of muting. Dark Malts seem to come through well, but anything from the pale and the hops seems muted.

I'd get myself out to a local micro and nab a flask full of live little beasties :)

Cheers

Was at a mates pub on Tyneside.
He's not there anymore, he did a flit without paying the bills!

Cheers

Can't say what the efficiency will be but hoping with 23l the OG will be around 1.040. Looking forward to this too :D

Get some piccys up! :D

I was supposed to be doing some bits and bobs today but my inventory is a tad short and my local HBS is shut! :-({|=

Shut on a Wednesday! How very 1975!

Hehe, only joking!

I'll have a rethink and get another H&G order in.
