A memorial stout

Post by jaytee1 » Fri Mar 14, 2008 11:25 am

I need to brew an irsh type stout in memory of someone who has just recently passed away and I was wondering if anyone could suggest a decent recipe for me.

I am extract brewing at the moment, however a friend up the road has an ag set up which i might be able 'borrow'.

I have the real ales for the homebrewer by M ollosson, and have been really impressed with the results from those, but as the stout section is quite small and none of the recipes contain any flaked malt which I believe is an ingredient of many irish stouts, i thought that i might ask you kind people for any advice..

cheers

Is it a Guiness clone you're after? This recipe is consistent with some Guiness clone recipes I've seen. You could use 1.5Kg of Dried pale malt extract with the flaked and roasted barley. Please note that I havnt made this myself.

Actually, that entire stout, with the inclusion of chocolate malt looks much better.

Stout was brewed today, lovely dark colour and the trail tasted very creamy. 1038 OG, does this seem about right??

made up 20l as per the recipe details above daab. Used extract instead of grain for the pale malt, and multiplied the grain weight by 0.73 for the extract weight. I suspected that the og should be a higher than this.

I didnt notice until I was well under way with the boil that the og was missing, and by that stage I thought that it was probably best just to keep going and see what the results where.

I prefer lower alcohol percentages in my home brew, other wise I just end up getting pissed all the time

Thanks as usual for the comments
