TT Landlord Question

Post by Bionicmunky » Sat Jun 14, 2008 10:30 am

Morning all,

I looking at brewing TTL next as friends are requesting it for an upcoming BBQ.

Now then, The recipe states Golden Promise. Am I going to have to order some this or can I use MO Pale Malt?

Cheers in advance,

John

If you can get Golden Promise then for the sake of authenticity go for it. However, if you already have a load of MO then you will still make a great TTL type beer and I doubt your friends will be able to tell the difference (infact I doubt they will know you can get different type of pale malt). :)

Really wish I could get Styrians over here. Such a great hop. I've found my GP versions to be light as well. Good luck.

Midwest Supplies has them. I brewed a Styrian Stunner a month back and just started into it. Great hop.
Midwest shows up in the Google ads on this site fairly often (at least for me). Click through and give Jim a bit of help 8)

This is the recipe I brewed and is lovely, the orig doesn't use crystal. I used a small amount for colour and that caramel taste.

I believe most caramalise the first running to get the more authentic colour and taste:

Mine is also lower gravity IIRC the orig is around 4.4%

SG: 1036
FG: 1009
IBU: 35
EBC: 9.7
Brew Length: 25L
Est ABV: 3.5%

Mash: 90ish
Boil: 90ish

MO Pale: 4.2kg
Crystal 60L: 100g
Styrian Goldings (4%) 50g 90mins
Fuggles (3.6%) 30g 90mins
Goldings (5%) 15g 10mins
Styrian Goldings (4%) 35g Steep 80c 20-30mins

Thanks for that - I suppose choice of yeast is pretty important for this beer as well?

Google up wyeast 1469.
Not sure if you guys get wyeast in the UK though.

TL, i have a TTL recipe on both HB&B and AHB.

I had wessmith help me out on the old grumpys forum with malt questions since we cant get floor malted GP or MO for that matter down under.

I went with 93% MO, 7% munich I. Fuggles at 60, EKG at 20 and plenty of styrians at flameout. Used 1469 yeast which 'The Drunk Arab' kindly donated. Maybe try 1187, 1275 or 1968 instead. I tried with 1098 but didnt produce the ester profile i was looking for.

Its a tad lighter than the bottled version but is my best beer so far.

Thanks Doc - FWIW, we can get MO from the source via our brewclub. Just lucky I guess!!

Cheers
