Norman; thanks for taking the time to post this. I take it that it was in respose to my post 2 down from this?
I look forward to trying it. Never used styrian goldings though.
It really was a unique ale being remarkably smooth and a bit like courage best if I would have to liken it to another beer.
Cheers,

I believe Whitelabs Essex Ale is Ridleys (WLP-022). This is only available as a special and last came out in Jan-Feb so there may be a wait for it to reappear.norman wrote: Yeast of your choice
On the plus side, Bedford British (WLP-006) is coming out soon and that's used in a lot more beers than just Charles Wells.
Whilst browsing the web for further ridleys info I came across this really useful looking website regarding yeasts and their brewery origins. http://www.mrmalty.com/yeast.htm
I hope it is of use.

I know Old Bob is available and marketed as Ridleys Old Bob in Waitrose, but I havn't seen Ridleys IPA. Many pubs near me in Essex still display the Ridleys sign over the pub or on the sign but not seen any draught though. Wouldn't mind trying a pint on draught but I won't be buying it on principle as Green King bought Ridleys only to shut it as far as I am aware.
