West Coast Summer Ale

Post by Whorst » Tue Jul 08, 2008 4:22 pm

My Englander summer ale is coming along nicely. Secondary fermentation is underway in the corny showing at about 5 psi. It's a bright, golden brew. I'm going to make another, but a West Coast version. 50/50 Maris Otter and Durst Lager Malt. Hopped with Amarillo and Centennial throughout the boil. I don't know if you have access to Centennial in the UK? Great hop, like a supercharged Cascade.

We get it here - we might even have more here than in the US shops

It is about $15 for 100g though.

Centennial was the hop I used on my first and only extract beer when I started out brewing. I remember my brother screwing up his face and saying the pint tasted like 'fruit pastilles'. I thought then it was the hop but now I realise it's because I fermented it at about 27C
