Simple ABA - brewing tonight

Post by macleanb » Mon Jul 14, 2008 3:45 pm

Trying to not do my normal kitchen sink approach, this is for a simple ABA, wot does you chaps think:

5.07 kg Mild Malt (7.9 EBC) Grain 93.54 %
0.35 kg Wheat, Torrified (3.3 EBC) Grain 6.46 %
45.00 gm Williamette [5.50 %] (90 min) Hops 26.3 IBU
28.00 gm Cascade [5.50 %] (90 min) Hops 16.4 IBU
28.00 gm Cascade [5.50 %] (20 min) (Aroma Hop-Steep) Hops -
28.00 L London, England Water

Almost added some caramunch, or some carapils, or some crystal, but stayed my hand - do I need some speciality in there?

Sounds killer. What yeast are you using? I'm assuming the Williamette's are from the states?

Damn, thought I'd get away with it - Wyeast 1275! Not very "A" I'm afraid.

Yes Williamette from the good old US of A

So you think no crystal/cara is OK?

p.s. Your very quiet Daab, I've got that feeling like when my father frowns silently behind me when he thinks I'm doing something wrong (usually correctly).

It appears that the Thames Valley yeast is pretty attenuative. I always like to add either carapils or crystal in small amounts so there's some residual sugar to balance out the hops. I'd chuck in 227g of light crystal if you have it.

I haven't heard the jargon "septic" in ages. Good ol' cockney rhyming slang.
Have you heard the joke "Why do the British drink warm beer?" Because they use Lucas refrigerators. That's obviously retarded, it actually pisses me off, as I am dear to the motherland. I suppose an American GI during WWII drank a pint of English beer at cellar temperature and couldn't handle that it wasn't frozen.

Definately retarded! I mean if you bought a british leyland car, the chances you would actually be able to switch on the electrics to judge their quality are slim. The key would break in the ignition, or you sit in the car and the floorpan would fall out, or you wouldnt be able to unlock the doors, or..............

Hi Daab

thats a relif in both senses. This is not a mild, but intended to be an American Brown Ale! (I'm just using Mild Ale malt to trick you!).
