Brewday coming up - my Stout recipe

Post by Iank » Wed Sep 10, 2008 5:51 pm

Ben & I will be brewing some stout on Friday and I have been looking at recipes from various sources (particularly Buzz's Choc Treacle Stout viewtopic.php?t=15708) and have come up with the following:
Recipe Specifications

--------------------------
Batch Size: 23.00 L
Boil Size: 23.00 L
Estimated OG: 1.052 SG
Estimated Color: 63.5 EBC
Estimated IBU: 34.9 IBU
Brewhouse Efficiency: 75.00 %
Boil Time: 90 Minutes

Ingredients:
------------
Amount Item Type % or IBU
4.25 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter (5.9 EBC) Grain 78.70 %
0.40 kg Roasted Barley (591.0 EBC) Grain 7.41 %
0.30 kg Barley, Flaked (3.3 EBC) Grain 5.56 %
0.20 kg Chocolate Malt (886.5 EBC) Grain 3.70 %
25.00 gm Fuggles [5.00 %] (90 min) Hops 13.1 IBU
22.00 gm Target [10.50 %] (90 min) Hops 21.8 IBU
0.25 kg Molasses (157.6 EBC) Sugar 4.63 %
2 Pkgs SafAle English Ale (DCL Yeast #S-04) Yeast-Ale
I would have used Northdown instead of target, but couldn't get hold of any at short notice.
If any of you seasoned AG brewers wouldn't mind casting an eye over this to see if I have made any glaring errors, I'd appreciate it!

I did something very similar just last week with 100% Northdown. The grain bill was very similar so it should give you a decent pint. I hopped to 40IBU but my OG was 1056 so there's not a lot in it. Should be a cracker 8)

EDIT: should have read the rest of the text and not just the recipe, I see you already refer to the one I did from the newsletter  Samples from the FV are very good :D
