i had some of this whilst in scotland and would like to recreate. the ingrediants list caramalt, crystal and first gold. i've had some caramalt delivered today but i've never used it. i was thinking along the lines of:
5 kg MO
100g crystal
200g caramalt
40g first gold 90 min
10g first gold 15 min
20g first gold 0min
mash at 66C
will i get enough sweetness from the caramalt or should i raise the mash temperature?
any thoughts? i'll be brewing this tomorrow so i'll try and get some pictures posted.
brewdog - the physics
Re: brewdog - the physics
Having never had it I can't really comment but that recipe doesn't look very amber to me.
Also this says it uses American hops.

Talking of BrewDog you may want to read this and sign the petition linked from it. Apparently the killjoys at the Portman group reckon BrewDog and Orkney's Skullspliter encourage teenage thugs or something..

Typical big bully boy tactics from the industry there.steve_flack wrote:Talking of BrewDog you may want to read this and sign the petition linked from it. Apparently the killjoys at the Portman group reckon BrewDog and Orkney's Skullspliter encourage teenage thugs or something..![]()

I try not to look at the Brewdog website though - It hurts me when I daydream what their Anniversary Paradox must taste like

Re: brewdog - the physics
do we really live in such a restricted health and safety society that thinks binge drinking is encouraged by packaging?
had some skull splitter in scotland as well. lovely. not one to binge on.
more crystal and caramalt then?

Re: brewdog - the physics
I would go more like 100g caramalt and 200g dark crystal malt.
I've tried the beer and it's tasty - the first gold flavour is noticeable but blends well with the caramel flavour. Hopping looks about right...although i'd be tempted to bump up the finishing hops to 30g. If they do use American hops, you can't really taste them, not C hops anyway.
