Combined Harvest

Post by haz66 » Thu Oct 30, 2008 10:40 pm

I`ve just had my first try of Batemans Combined Harvest, and i`m very impressed, just wondered if anyone had tried to clone this, on the bottle it gives the ingredients as
Pale and Crystal Barley Malts
with malted Wheat Oats and Rye,
hopped with Phoenix and Target.

Aroma 6
Bitterness 5
Fruitiness 8
Maltiness 6
Spiciness 7

I`m guessing that the main Malt is Pale Malt with maybe 350g of each of the other ?
With Phoenix being the bittering Hop and Target as the aroma hop but both added at start of boil ? and maybe more Phoenix added later on.

Any help on suggested quantaties to get a decent beer out of this lot would be great, also where do you get Rye from ?.

Did you ever try brewing this? I'd really like to try! Have you tried Batemans' Autumn Fall too?

No i never did get around to it, i might just have to put it down for an upcoming brewday,
i`d just need Phoenix and Rye to be able to do it.
I`d also have to try another bottle of the original just to see if i could guess a little better :D

No i`ve never tried Autumn Fall,i`m guessing it must be a good one.

Autumn Fall is very similar to Combined Harvest, except that it is cheaper! It's on sale in Aldi for about £1.30. Batemans' website says:
ABV 4.2%
OG 1044
Colour EBC 45
Bitterness EBU 38
Hops: Goldings, Challenger
Malt: Maris Otter Ale, Optic Ale, Crystal, Oat, Wheat, Rye

Tasting Notes
Autumn Fall is a copper-red beer brewed with Maris Otter pale & crystal malts and hopped with the classic Goldings variety. It has a distinct old fashioned ale aroma, combined with a biscuity malt flavour.

I see that the link in your footer to Barley Bottom now has Rye, and I'm guessing that the Oats could just be some breakfast oats from the supermarket.

I'm definitely going to give this a go. Not for my next batch, but maybe the one after!!!
