Yellowbelly Mild

Post by SiHoltye » Wed Nov 05, 2008 4:44 pm

 Have plaigarised Through a Mild Darkly - Jamil Zainasheff, and will be next week's brew.

This beer has been well lauded as a nice pint but I have changed the recipe slightly  . Originally it called for 8% 60L Crystal and 6% 120L Crystal and I've replaced them with 14% 55L Crystal. I wonder what I'll be missing out on by making this change?

Looks a great recipe, and I think you will be fine with the crystal 8)

Interested on what you think of this recipe, I may give it a crack in the new year :D

The recipe looks broadly similar to one I have just made and am about to barrel today.

You will get a lush malty, roasty, really tasty beer that is ready very quickly mmmmmmmmmm

Confession Time...
I've been thinking about a Vanilla hint for this??? Think I need someone to tell me to forget it  Or shall I pop a pod in for the last 15 minutes of the boil.

It didn't go in, but drinking the brew now (altered recipe - of course ) it's a lovely drop with room for a hint of vanilla. Prolly won't use the same grain bill again - not because the beer doesn't taste great but rather because it's a ridiculously complex grain bill  and I'd be happier achieving a tasty mild without ordering 200g of this and 100g of that just to make it.
There will be a few brews in between but when i come back to it I like the omission of crystal and addition of sugar, it lightens the mouthfeel IMO whilst still getting the flavour from other speciality malts, and I'll do something in the way of vanilla. Maybe a slitted pod in at 0 mins.
