I know for a fact that's not the recipe. The recipe has pale, crystal, brown and chocolate malts and uses Fuggles. I know this as I was pretty much given the recipe by the Fullers themselves when I asked. Actually, the Real Ale Almanac recipe is pretty accurate.

:D
I can understand your sceptism about BYO recipes as think the "creator" is using what he/she has available locally and that is likely to be different to what we have available over here.

From my point of view I would use the BYO recipe only as a starting point and addapt from there.

I bought a bottle of London Porter recently and LOVED it. I have kept the bottle as I wanted to try and clone it myself (although I probably never will - too many other beers to invent!!)

Cooking with Beer forum or London Porter thread?????

Either way, this is from their official site (the recipe was a bonus - never expected it)

My copy of the Real Ale Almanac lists alexis and chariot as the pale malts used. Have you a more up to date edition, mine's a 5th edition copy?

Fancy giving this one a go as I've got a Caledonian porter in the secondary at the moment and it would be good for comparison.

Fullers now use Optic malt as in 300 BEERS TO TRY BEFORE YOU DIE by Roger Protz.I think Chariot and Alexis malts have been discontinued.

Sorry for digging up an old topic, but I used this recipe for my last brew I planned for xmas... since it's been maturing in the corny for 2 weeks I thought I'd have a crafty taster, and it's spot on!!!

It's lovely, in fact I actually think that it is better than the actual Fullers as there is slightly less harsh roasted flavours to it!

Although I've just dry hopped 20grms of Goldings to give it a nice aroma for when it's consumed at crimbo....well if it lasts that long!! :D

I've got to stop looking at pictures of your beers this early in the morning. Good thing I'm not at home!

By the way, which recipe did you use, BYO or Almanac?
