Well Above target OG

Post by norman » Thu Dec 07, 2006 1:53 pm

I have just made a batch of LONDON PRIDE to my Real Ale Almanac recipe, target OG 1040 at 75 % efficiency formulated with Beersmith. The actual OG I have achieved is 1052. more like fullers ESB.This is the first time for a long time I have checked Og with a hydrometer.I have suspected my beers were stronger than the recipe OG.Can some mathematician tell me my true extract efficiency.

Id say....

if 1040 is 75%

then

100 % = 40/75*100

100% = 1053

so 52/53*100 is 98%

Not that I don't believe that you are running at 98% but I'd consider.

Are you getting less wort than the recipe states?
Are you using more malt than the recipe states?
Are you using the Hydrometer correctly?

If you are doing it all correctly then can you please tell how you brew. I want 98% effieciency. :D

Your efficiency seems to be 90%, which is very high but not unheard of.

Maybe post up the recipe to see if we can spot something?

The recipe is in the recipre section under Real Ale almanac London pride.I have taken the reading 4 times correcting for temperature using beersmith.
