Ringwood Best

Post by moorsd » Fri Dec 08, 2006 1:08 pm

After my day working with the brewers at my local brewery (which was cool!) I've managed to decipher the recipe for Ringwood Best...well it's about 90% accurate anyway.

I'm going to give this a go on my next batch after xmas, hopefully it will turn out ok as if it's anything like the real stuff, it will be lovely! :D

3450g Marris Otter Pale Malt
560g Crystal Malt
50g Chocolate Malt

Copper Hops (90min Boil):
20g Challenger Hops
10g Progress Hops

Late Hops:
15g Fuggles
10g Goldings

Target O.G - 1.041

I'll be using their yeast so it should turn out very similar!

Unfortunately not, we only brewed Best and 4X Porter, however I might be able to get it...I'll see what I can do!

I'm pretty sure it’s basically the same ingredients as the Best, only without the Chocolate malt and with a higher hop rate. They use the same hops for each variety though (just in different quantities)!

I work part time as a fire fighter and one of our new recruits works at the brewery...so basically he pulled a few strings so I could spend a day there! I don't think they would do it usually though :(

They do tours as I'm sure you're aware, but I think I remember the guys saying they have over a years waiting list (unless it isn't a big group and it can be tagged on to another one)!!

They do give out samples of the yeast though....and I might be able to get some malt, but I have to confirm that!

I'll ask my mate if he can see about the 49'er recipe though...I wished I could have got it on the day along with the Old thumper recipe as these are my favourites!
