Do not read anything into the following DaaB.....but

As a newbie AG brewer

The 2 rec have very different mashing temps/ malt quantities and alc %.

In your experience are they that similar :?:

As I sit here, I'm quite stewed on this brew, and it's gr8 8)

And I've still got 1 + 1/2 cormies to go

This looks nice 8) - not disimilar to the type of brews I often make.* I find that brews like this are real crowd pleasers at bbqs and general booze ups because they are not overly bitter, but the late goldings add a nice flavour. They are also economical to make for the financially challenged like me, because they don't require more than one pack of hops.

My completely random 2p worth  :P

* not that I'm making any big claims about my beers

Looks good.

I'd be tempted to use the last 10g of hops for aroma.

I tend to add about 15g of Goldings steeped for 20 mins after the boil with this type of beer

BD. Do you add the steeped liquid aswell or drain and then add? just hops?

I haven't done a Pale Ale for ages but am thinking about soemthing pale and hoppy for my next brew (could call it Albino Kangaroo  ).

I'm not sure I completely understand. I just chuck the hops in the boiler when it's switched off. I've done it differently the last couple of times.

1) I let them sit for 20 or 30 mins, then carefully transferred the hot wort out of the boiler via tubing into a bin (I did'nt have a wort cooler and therefore didn't want the wort sitting in the boiler with the hops too long)

2) Threw the hops in and started my new wort cooled imediately. When cooled, i transferred to the bin.

The first time, steeping, I got a more intense hop flavour, so I think I'll steep for 20 mins from now on. I think the wort chiller will do its job quickly enough so that hops added late in the boil will not contribute too much bitterness. I suppose I could increase the aroma hops and cool immediately as an alternative.

I thought you were steeping them separately and then adding them once the boil had finished.

It all makes sense now. Cheers

Does Wheeler add late hops in his recipe? I thought he didn't. Presumably that would make a difference between the recipes?

It was my first ever AG brew so I have a fond regard for it 8)

Nice and simple, single malt, single hop - lovely.

Perhaps I'll give it a go - I do love a bit of goldings 8)

Btw, did you ever finish that sack of goldings you bought about a year ago? :P

Still got it and there's probably 500g left! I used some as late hops in my TTL clone! (doubled the quantity as they're getting a tad stale  )

When you say Goldings I presume you're talking about Kent Goldings
