Greene King Triumph

Post by Seveneer » Thu Dec 21, 2006 6:31 pm

Hi,

I'm an absolute Triumph motorcycle fan (despite currentl riding a BMW) and would dearly love to find a recipe for the Greene King Brewery's Triumph Ale. Unfortunately I never actually tasted this beer myself so I'm looking for either a recipe or any kind of information that would allow me to make a reasonable approximation.

I have a beer engine with a Triumph pump clip waiting but no recipe

Help!!

Thanks,
/Phil.

nice beer Phil, I did have a few pints of it once up in Norfolk as a guest ale. Seem to remember it was quite light and hoppy. Looked in the Almanac and nothing in there.

here is a description of it:

This superb, golden cask ale is brewed with four varieties of hops - Goldings, Fuggles, Target and the rare Bramling Cross - to give a wonderful depth of flavour, rounded finish and fruity aroma. It's also late-hopped with all four varieties of hops to boost taste and aroma still further. With an abv of 4.3%, Greene King Triumph is available as a cask ale and in 500ml take-home cans.

That could be enough information to make a good recipe 8)

I wouldn't bother with the Target hops though. Incidently there is a Triumph variety of barley so that might be worth looking into - assuming there is a connection between the name and the barley! Here's the description for mild ale malt on H&G:

"Produced from the Triumph variety of barley used extensively on the continent for lager malt. Mild Ale Malt is kilned slightly hotter than pale to give a fuller flavour. We strongly recommend the use of this malt to obtain the luscious sweetness evident in the best milds. "

Thanks guys, I am formulating a recipe and will post it efore I brew.

I found a photo of a bottle of Triumph on line last night and it looks quite orange. I'll probably go with all pale malt and use those four hops witha bias towards the lower AA for aroma.

Yep that's the one.

If you take CF's link then search for "triumph" you'll see the full size photo.

Looks like a fair dose of crystal malt in there, too.
