Post by rick_huggins » Thu Aug 06, 2009 11:29 pm

Well, I done the one from GW's book a month ago or so and it's ripe for the picking now..

I didn't have fuggle at the time so used brambling cross and all I can say is wow.... beautiful, truly beautiful my favourite to date..

I hope this helps someone out

I've done a Deuchars IPA from Grahams book too. Like yours, mine turned out really good. Definately recommend it :D

Going to try Graham's Black Sheep best bitter this weekend. Hope that turns out as good as the IPA!

I dare say my Deuchars IPA would be good if not for some carbonation issues, though I used the recipe from www.hopandgrain.com which I think has slightly different hops.

I did Graham`s Black Sheep and it was very good, not an exact copy taste wise but still a good beer.

Grahams Deuchers I.P.A. is probably the best brew that I've done. 8)

What yeast did you use Rick, I have tried this recipe twice before using s04 and the beer wasnt to good, I have just kegged my third attempt and for the first time i have took the plunge into using liquid yeast. I have to say that this batch of beer is nothing like i have made before. The smell was fantastic also this encouraged me to have a sly taste straight from the FV which i have to say seems to be very good indeed. Also i was very much impressed with the colour and brightness of this beer and a can not wait to try this once i've conditioned it and gased it up slightly.
I used whitlabs British WLP005

There is a recipe that I did on www.hopandgrain.com though others have used the Graham Wheeler Book recipe. :)

Just plain old S04 mate; seemed to do the trick!

I didn't however have any fuggle so used Brambling X which is said to be a good alternative and I'm well impressed; so much so I will be doing another soon and sticking with Bramblings spicyness.

Yes I agree with that. Have just used Bramling Cross for the first time (from Barley Bottom) and I'm well impressed. I used it in GW's McMullen's County Best along with Fuggles and WGV and I shall definitely be using it again. :) :)

Hi, just made this exactly as per the GW British Real Ale book. Bubbling away nicely, I'll let you know how it turns out. I've seen a much more complex recipe though on the hop and grain website using a more sophisticated hops schedule and no wheat malt (the GW recipe uses a bit). Anyone made that version?
