Nelson Sauvin

I had a bit of a panic last night when I realised that I had two empty cornys and two cornys well on the way to being emptied [-X .

FSOS that I kicked off yesterday is bubbling away happily so I decided to get another beer on today to try and play catchup.

I opened the Nelson Sauvin and could smell the grape aromas straight away. I've brewed a recipe suggested by Garth which has a different hop schedule to anything I've done before with loads more late hops compared to the bittering hops so I'm hoping for the flavour of the hops to come through.

First taste from the sample jar is raw but encouraging. I'm expecting a good beer but dont think I'll be using Nelson Sauvin more than a couple of times a year.

It grows on you actually. Initially I didn't think much to it, but then my local started having Thornbridge Kipling on quite frequently and I developed a taste for it. Now I love the hop!

Fermenting: nowt (sadly). Drinking: still a few bottles of my imperial stout knocking about . . . it's rather good now

I like what I've tasted so far but I think I may be a bit of a traditionalist.

The 'C' hops are great and produce some good beers but I seem to keep coming back to EKGs and Fuggles. I think it could be the same with NS.

Happy to be proved wrong though.

Ribena and cat piss ...... a heady combination

I've had a taste this morning when I checked the SG and its understandably rough around the edges but you can tell that its no shrinking violet of a beer
