First Gold in a stout

Hi all

I'm planning on making my coffee stout on Friday (3rd brew in 3 weeks!) and have some First Gold hops - 9.1%aa. Will these do to bitter my stout? Planning on my usual 90 min boil but am a little worried that the pungent flavour of First Gold may end up being present in the finished beer.

What do you reckon?

You can use anything for bittering as long as you hit the right balance of bitterness. Stouts have very little in the way of hop flavour or aroma so use what you have I say.

There are lots of stouts that use late hopping and give another dimension to them in my opinion

I'm a stout traditionalist when it comes to hops. I only want to use hops for their bittering qualities. Cheers, will use good old First Gold.

True but you can still use whatever you want for bittering.
