Refreshing session beer ideas 4 - 4.5%?
Refreshing session beer ideas 4 - 4.5%?
I am looking to do a refreshing bitter (not as pale as a JHB), and cannot put my finger on what I want to brew.
Any recipes really stand out to anyone?
I dont want it to be citrus/hop dominated nor malty/strong like Abbott or Hen, somewhere in the middle. It must smell good though and be pale ish but not be just Marris Otter...

How about a nice drop of Flowers Original. MO, Crystal, Target and Styrian 4.5%. I liked the Directors as well but it's a bit stronger at 4.8%

Here we are:
Note that the hop utilization is a bit out, so just use ratio's to achieve the final IBU. Also adjust the grist to suit your efficiency. (but you knew that)
OG 1.044, ABV 4.5%, IBU 30.
In the tun: 3785g MO, 355g Crystal. Mash at 65C
In the boiler: Target (8.7%) 39g, Styrian (3.7%) 10g. Whole boil.
10g Styrian 15 min (i put about 20g in mine and reduced the whole boil hops slightly)
590g Invert sugar (golden syrup), 30 min
Dry hop with 5g Styrian and 2g Target. (i bunged a few more in)
Yeast of your choice. I used Wyeast 1098 which turned out nice.
A tasty beer. Good luck with it Stephen.
