Tennants

Post by Deebee » Thu Oct 22, 2009 12:33 pm

Hi. My neighbour loves getting to taste the stuff i make but is really a lager man.

He wondered if there was any way i might be able to knock up something like tennants for him( the original of around 3.8%) does anyone have a recipe. Was thinking that i'll only make a short brew on this at first... not for me.. i dislike lager but non the less....it means i get to brew he he

That's going to be pretty tough. No matter how your brew goes it's always going to taste better than the original :=P

On bottle: AG32 Homegrown Northdown ESB, AG33 Homegrown Cascade Best

Just a thought, but what would the mash temp and time be.
As for yeast i guess safe lager would be a decent bet. Cool fermentation and long time?

Don't forget to adjust Dave Line's recipes for today's better quality hops, and DL's unrealistic high mash efficiency.

Generally, 20% reduction on hops, and 20% increase in grain is a good starting point.

Unless you fancy trying a tricky decoction mash (probably not worth the hassle), I would just shoot for a normal 66-67C. Recommended temp is apparnetly 12C for S-23 - but everywhere I've read states you need to pitch a lot more yeast if you're gonna pitch cold (2-3 packets).

An alternative is W34/70 but the same applies re: number of packs when pitching cold.

I am against making this type of beer personally. I do not drink it, do not enjjoy it and am not a lover of lager type beers.

I shall be working hard to convert him in the course of the next year though. They only moved in during the summer.

I think a barrage of pale ales, TTL styrian stunners etc should about do the trick....

I told him i would make this but he has to be involved in the brewing and tha he has to both pay for the malt etc and supply the power...

Nice one, level headed Norwegian. I am sure it will be an easy conversion. I was working out of Kristiansund port for a couple of months over the Summer. I now make it my goal to track down pubs in Norway with a good selection of bottled beer. There's a cracker in Stavanger, has about 200 or so imported beers. Costs a bit though but at a fiver a pint for the pish stuff, might as well spend 6 and get a 'good' beer! Most expensive was a christmas ale at £16 per bottle. Why is it you brew your own then?

The pub inStavanger is called cardinals, Here in Kristiansund there are not many that sell much. might get he odd newkie brown or even a murpphys but you pay the price for it.

Stavanger has a much better range du to the amount of non norwegians working the oil and supply boat.

Next time you come to town let me know and we can hook up. i gather you were out at West base or maybe by the new shopping centre in the middle of town? 10 minutes walk for me!
