Jumping UseUp

Post by befuggled » Wed Oct 28, 2009 4:16 pm

I have seven opened packets of hops, not refrigerated, all opened in the last month or so, so I thought I would try to use most of them up this weekend
I have been looking at http://www.mrmalty.com/late_hopping.htm and thought I might try an APA which would jump out of the glass
The current plan is:
Pale Malt 5 EBC 6000 grams 88.2%
Wheat Malt 3.5 EBC 500 grams 7.4%
Crystal Malt 130 EBC 300 grams 4.4%

Chinook 12.7 % 90 mins 10 grams 3.8%
Styrian Goldings 5.5 % 20 mins 20 grams 7.6%
Tettnang 4.1 % 20 mins 15 grams 5.7%
Hallertauer Mittlefruh 4.3 % 20 mins 15 grams 5.7%
Styrian Goldings 5.5 % 10 mins 40 grams 15.3%
Tettnang 4.1 % 10 mins 40 grams 15.3%
Hallertauer Mittlefruh 4.3 % 10 mins 30 grams 11.5%
Willamette 4 % 0 mins 38 grams 14.5%
Cascade 7.6 % 0 mins 24 grams 9.2%
Golding 4.0 % 0 mins 30 grams 11.5%

Final Volume: 25 Litres
Original Gravity: 1.061
Final Gravity: 1.014
Alcohol Content: 6.2% ABV
Total Liquor: 37.3 Litres
Mash Liquor: 17 Litres
Mash Efficiency: 75 %
Bitterness: 38.9EBU
Colour: 21 EBC

This just leaves 70 gm Goldings and 50 gms of Chinook.

Is this utter madness, or might it just work :?: :?: :?:
Any suggestions on the hop schedule or anything else (including my sanity) would be most appreciated :D

Befuggled you are truly going where no man has gone before by the look of that recipe!!!! as for the left over hops why not chuck them in as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been doing similar brews to this recently with massive late hop additions but mine have been with fewer varieties of hop in a brew, they have all been superb!!! Good luck

Thanks Zatoichi, well Columbus had to find America didn't he!!
(That is after various previous expeditions had lost it again.....maybe its a shame he didn't lose it as well!!)
But if it wasn't there now, I would not be trying this would I ?!!

I'm currently thinking that 50 extra gms of Chinook anywhere in the hop schedule might be a bit over the top, but...
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=27251&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=chinook
I'm going to transfer it to Brewdays after I have thought up a better working title - cheers!
