Back in the saddle.....

Post by Piscator » Thu Oct 29, 2009 7:46 pm

Planning a couple of brewdays after a long summer break - drank the last bottle of my last brew yesterday :(

The first will be as below, the next will be a simple German style wheat beer.

I'm thinking along the lines of:-
4.5kg MO
150g Crystal malt
50g Chocolate malt

25g Goldings 90 mins
20g Fuggles 90 mins

25g Styrian Goldings 10 mins

Should give me 23 litres in the FV at about 30IBU and 4.5% abv

What do you think and any suggestions for names?

Cheers
Steve

Looks pretty good to me, nice and simple just how I like it.. I would be tempted to move the Goldings to the end for aroma (and adjust the other hops to get the IBU) or replace the late Styrians with Goldings but that's just because I love Goldings.

Oh, and for the name how about, um, "Back In The Saddle"....

If I go with "Back In The Saddle", does that mean instead of getting hungover I'll get "saddle sore" (or does that sound a bit too Brokeback Mountain  )

I've got about 40g Goldings, 25g Styrians and 100g Fuggles to play with. (and a mystery bag which I'm not sure of the contents - I forgot the leave the label on before freezing them - might make a batch of "Mystery Mild" with those)

I suppose I could bitter with mainly fuggles, and do a late Golding addition and miss out the styrians (although they need using up)

Don't let me dictate your final choice. I'm a traditionalist so you'll always find me gravitating towards fuggles and goldings and you will rarely find me using more than 2 or 3 different grains in a recipe. With your chosen ingredients it will be quite hard to brew a bad beer :D

I quite like Saddle Sore as a name too. Perhaps you have found a theme for your beer names!
